Yesterday, we lit Lola’s candle for the 18th time. 18 years of the Wave of Light.
There is
something so special about using the same candle every year. It means so much
to me. Yesterday, I told Finley that I hope we can use this same candle for Lola’s 18th birthday this coming year, too. It’s getting
close to the end of its “eternal flame”, but the memories and love behind it
will never go away.
The Wave of
Light is always such a peaceful and beautiful time to remember Lola and all the
sweet babies gone too soon. I find myself thinking not only about these angel babies but of their parents and families, too. Everyone carries their own story
and grief…
Yesterday also brought up a beautiful poem on social media by The Poem Whisperer that really resonated with me. It captured what the Wave of Light, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, and Lola Grace. It’s a reminder of why we light our candles on this day each year, remember our babies, and say their names out loud year after year.
You are truly
loved, missed, and will always be remembered…Lola Grace Doepke.
Love,
The Mother of
an Angel
National Day of Remembrance
By The Poem Whisperer
There is a love that the world does not always see,
a bond that begins before life even begins.
It lives in the quiet spaces of our hearts,
And in the gentle footprints that never touched the ground.
Some stayed only a moment.
Some grew beside us for years.
Some never drew breath in this world at all-
But they breathed life into ours.
They are our children. Our angels. Our own.
And their memory is a light that will never fade.
October the fifteenth,
A day to speak their names without fear.
A day to stand together, shoulder to shoulder,
And say: You were here. You mattered. You are loved.
Let this be our promise-
That no life is too small to be honored,
No memory too quiet to be heard,
And no parent ever walks alone.
We remember. We stand. We shine our light.
For all of our children. Forever.
